I have a Mac laptop and wonder if it is advisable to bring it with me to SE Asia (plan to teach in Vietnam, Thailand, or Cambodia after taking the TEFL or CELTA course).

Will a personal laptap be of great assistance to a newbie ESL teacher for lesson planning OR is it unnecessary (and possibly a hassle/risk) to pack it along with me? I know the internet is readily available (at widely different usage costs) and possibly furnished by language schools for it's teachers(?). Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Also, while I don't want to resurrect old issues, I still don't have a handle on the CELTA vs. TEFL issue. I'm more drawn to the TEFL International Course, but want to make sure it would be as universally recognized (or almost as recognized) in SE Asia to preserve my teaching options. Any experience in this regard? They both seem solid, so the recongition factor might be the tipping point.

Bring the laptop with you. Get travel insureance to cover the first month or two of your stay, not so much for the laptop as for general peace of mind.

I have never heard of TEFL International; the only non university TEFL courses with any kind of recognition are the RSA and Trinity Celta and Delta.
