I recently was rejected from a job in Spain, based on the fact that I was bringing my partner with me to Spain(!) This seems strange and a little anti-discrimination laws, such as they exist in the UK. Anyone had similar experiences? |

I've had a sort of similar experience-my boyfriend and I applied to a school near Seville during the Summer for the coming school year. The school replied that it could not consider us as possible candidates as we were travelling together as a couple.
Their flimsy reason was that if they did hire us and one of us wasn't happy and decided to go elsewhere the other would probably follow and instead of losing one teacher they would have lost two. Apparently it had happened to them before and they were apprenhensive that it would happen again.
Surely this is a form of discrimination?? I would be very interested to hear similar stories from others on this topic also.
Best of luck in your job hunt

Good to hear I'm not alone (!) although my situation was slightly different as my partner wouldn't even have been teaching at that school, cheeky blighters. I was given similar reasons to you, but I know that just wouldn't stand up in the UK, so I'll be finding out a bit more about Spanish laws. A friend brought up the interesting point - would it have been the same if I was a bloke bringing his girlfriend overseas?? |
