Hey!

I have nearly 3 years experience teaching children and adults in Seoul. I came back to Canada in April but I am thinking of going to Japan because my wife, who is Korean, has a good opportunity to work there. I have a sister in-law who lives in Shinsabashi in Osaka and she says she will pay for our housing if we come.

I have gone to Osaka twice before. I'm thinking of going to Osaka in the next month or so on a tourist visa and looking for work there. Has anyone else done this? I know it will not be a good season to look for work but I think I should be able to find a job in 3 months since I have a BSc., 3 years teaching experience, and I don't look too bad either (I hate to acknowledge this, but I know its important in Asia).

Can anyone give me any tips or advice for job hunting in Osaka? I've read lots of other posts but I don't see that much about Osaka. I received an email from Nova yesterday telling me that they would like to interview me but they want people to start early next year and I would like to start working prior to that.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I cant really tell you how easy or how hard it is to find a job at the moment as it depends on so many factors, not just a degree etc. but most jobs in Kansai are advertised in the Kansai Time Out

http://www.kfm.to

KTO comes out once a week and Kansai Time Out http://www.kto.co.jp
once a month.

My advice would be to contact a few schools, tell them when you will be in Osaka for an interview and when you can start working. Make sure your resume is up-to date. if you come here with three of four job interviews you can hit the ground running. Looks really arent all that important, as long as you have a degree, preferably a working visa and you have a bubbly personality. Some schools dont require previous experience so you will need to tailor your skills to each position.

I was just reading some more info about working and Japan and I thought of an idea.

I could get a working holiday visa in Vancouver and then go to Japan, then I could work instantly and it might be easier to find a job. Then once I found a job I could get the company to give me the certificate of eligibility, fly back to Korea and get my work visa and then go back to Japan.

Am I crazy or does this actually make sense? Confused

I just think that it may be easier to get employment this way. Am I wrong to be worried about having a hard time finding a job?

The working holiday visa allows you to work 6 months in Japan renewable once. You are not supposed to work full time on a WHV but there is no reason why you cant change it over to a work visa, though its a perfect waste of a WHV as you can only get it once.

If you have WHV there is no need to go to Korea to change your visa over. That is only if you have a tourist visa and want to change to a work visa.

Why not work on the WHV till it expires and then change to a work visa by going to immigration in Japan?

PS there are people here with tourist visas working holiday visas and still can not find a job. there are a number of factors involved- being here you have a better chance of finding work but it is not guaranteed.

Time of year, state of your resume, the suitability for a position, how hard you look for work and where and what you are looking for are factors as well.
