Since I have a lot of time on my hands (or more correctly - hand )I've been doing a spreadsheet of living costs, salary ranges, airfares etc. pertaining to my favourite potential destinations. And of course I always get around to Prague. The city just seems to have so much atmosphere and style.
How do regional cities compare to Prague? Do any of them have a similar feel to the architecture and way of life? How are they faring in terms of economic growth? it's always in the back of my mind that I might settle somewhere if I fall in love with the life (or a local girl) there, so what's the deal on real estate? Are any of the regional cities affordable in that respect? What can be had for around $100k?
While I'd rather stick forks in my eyes than teach Australian high school kids, it's occured to me that at least the hours would be civilised. I've worked split shifts before and it's not going to happen again - ever. Going to work once a day is once too many. Twice is just being bloody-minded. Even just working nights ruins my whole day, so I'd much prefer a 9-3ish timetable. Is a CELTA enough to get a job teaching English in a Czech high school? Is it something that's widely practised or is a language school my only viable option? |
