This must be a misprint (from JobsinJapan) right?:-
English Part-time teacher wanted, teaching adults from 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday in central Tokyo Salary 45,000Yen monthly schedule is from 1st to end of Month sorry no travel expenses so must live centrally and aged over 27 only with visa.
Or maybe it really is 714Yen per hour. Obviously I haven`t put the contact details in, `cos I want to be first to apply.....

Wow that's lower than minimum wage for Japanese. And they want the teacher at peak teaching hours. Hmmm. I could use the money, and I'm sure they aren't so strict about who the hire. I'll race you for it King Kakipi.

How about the following guerilla tactic to fight back against these idiots....

1 everybody on the board applies - create fake e-mails to stay anon

2 send large files of spoof cvs and photos of cute models culled form the net

3 arrange an interview

4 don't go

A little harsh I know and in this case it likely means 145 000 a month anyway

But we could use it to mess with all the 230000 full time, must have visa ads.

Am I too cynical?

How about faxing them a photocopy picture of your butt. That pay stinks! It doesn't even qualify as an offer.

Laughing Laughing

Normally I'd react to that offer with Righteous Indignation, but Gordon, your post was so damn funny that I can't even be indignant!

Oh and no transportation money, so you have to live close to Tokyo. Then again, on that kind of money, you would probably be living in a nice little 3DLK on Roppongi Hills, wouldn`t you?!
Shame there`s no snail mail address; we could all apply, putting their addy on the front and on the back (as sender`s) then `forget` the stamp......

How refreshing.

Haven't laughed out loud while reading this board since the last time I laughed out loud while reading this board. Anyway, it is nice to see the solidarity expressed(wow!)when laughing at ourselves--a welcome change.

I was just remarking to a colleague on the tennis court after school last night that I don't get any of those paid preparation hours anymore, like in the old days. Then we reflected back on when I had 300 hour contracts, then 270, then 230 and who knows what now. Plus, I was more than a little surprised to find that the wage had gone from 65 an hour to 55.

And I wasn't at all surprised to hear, several months ago, of sub-minimum wage teaching work in town. Heck, I had an entry level position four short years ago that worked out to just around a thousand an hour.

If I want a salary that low I can likely get a job in a fast food place. Seems that going wage right now in places like Matsuya, Gusto, Saizeriya, etc is about 700-900 an hour. And if I'm going to do that, I may as well go back to where I'm from... But, on another note....

If ANY of you are even considering such a job (even if it's PT) you may want to check out this site first: http://www.generalunion.org/ I'm not a member, but I have no problem recommending them to anyone. In Canada I worked in a unionized workplace, and was proud of it. They helped us in many, many ways.

Solidarity.

Don't do it! Don't do it! Don't even entertain the thought of applying for those outfits that offer such low wages.

That's all I have to say.
