Hello Everyone,
I'm very interested in coming to the Emirates to teach – preferably at the Higher Colleges or UAEU- but having read through many of the posts on this board feel that I am, as yet, not quite qualified - particularly given how competitive the job market there seems to be. I have two years of teaching/lecturing at the Uni of Paris and 15 months of teaching general English at ILI/IH in Cairo. I've spent the last year doing a MA in Applied Linguistics full-time as well as working part-time in an admin/ADOS position in the Arabic department at ILI/IH Cairo – no teaching ! - but working on the curriculum, developing materials, looking after teachers etc.
So, I'm looking for some advice about my next move. Now that my MA is nearly over I want to return to teaching. Though I have a strong desire to stay in the ME, I'm not really clear about what employers at Uni's in the Emirates are looking for. Is it preferable to have more ME experience ie. continue teaching in a school like ILI/IH or should I be looking for work in a University setting somewhere else? ie. in Asia or South America, teaching English prep/EAP type courses? Of course, I had thought of going to Saudi – not really an option these days I guess???
Any thoughts?
Thanks

IMHO they're looking for every kind of "teacher" BUT those who like to TEACH. Admin, curriculum development, => HI TECH <=, materials development, publishing, presenting, you name it. Actual teaching is the last thing they care about.
