CELTA - does it matter (in Poland) where you earned it?

Hello!

I am in my first year of teaching ESL in a hagwon in South Korea. It has always been a dream of mine to teach in Eastern Europe, especially in Poland.
My present contract ends in January 2004. I surfed the Net looking for a CELTA course that would be offered at that point and didn't find too many options. Then I found a course in Durban, South Africa that looks right as far as start date and cost.

I also received an email from another site that a low cost and training outside of Europe may affect my eligibility for an Eastern European job because the CELTA from there will somehow be regarded as inferior to a more costly one earned on another continent.

Can anyone give me some answers on this? Thanks! Smile

Weird name, never mind. You can do a CELTA with International House in Krakow, Poznan,Wroclaw etc in Poland. It is the Cambridge one so it's highly regarded. They might even give you a job later. It's a cheap option and it's v.well regarded everywhere in Eastern Europe and the world.

Poland is a good choice. Save your nickles and dimes in Korea and come to Poland and live like a god. You don't need a CELTA to teach there. Your Korean experience will make you marketable.

XXX always gives good, timely advice. You do not need a CELTA to teach in Poland with your background, etc.Of course,if you just WANT a CELTA(your time, your, money),that is your business. But it is not necessary. You will not make as much money in Poland as in Korea...but I bet you will have a much better time...especially since you have been working for a hakwon in Korea Rolling Eyes .Time to enjoy life a little bit.Have fun. Once again bnix is talking chod.If you want to work anywhere decent you will need a CELTA.Your time, your well spent money is what I'd say to you. It's a very practical teaching course that doesn't cost much to do in Poland. You will not regret doing it.
