I'm looking to go into teacher training. I heard that one way of doing that is to get a Diploma. Is this right?? I'm not ready to do an MA quite yet, but I do want another qualification under my belt.

I remember looking into this as part of my "grand plans for the future" phase. To be a CELTA trainer, you'd need a DELTA (with at least a year's experience post).

Then (apparently), a CELTA training place has to train you up (you can't just pay to do it like a standard course) - the whole process taking about 9 months.

Thanks Leeroy. I've actually had a tentative job offer from a teacher training company, not CELTA that have told me I need to get a Diploma. They didn't specify which!!! Are any of the distance learning courses worthwhile?? I've looked into LTTC and it seems pretty good. Any comments?

I'm not the best one to ask Smile

"Diploma", to me, implies DELTA or the Trinity equivalent (DipTESL). I did my DELTA with International House, they did lots of distance stuff and my tutors didn't rate distance learning any less highly than the normal courses.

Dunno about LTTC. Good luck Smile

Cheers anyway!!! The only problem is, I kinda need to do the course soon-ish, as this job offer isn't going to be around long!! And my options are severely limited, financially. The DELTA (distance learning) is over 2000!!!! Which is basically my wage out here for most of a year...

The LTTC course looks good, anyway. Very detailed, with regular contact with a tutor, so I'm going to give it a go. I'm going to do an MA at some stage in the future, so this is basically just a stepping-stone...

By the way, has anyone ever heard of the University of St.Clements?? I'm British, and I haven't!!!! Shocked

Thanks DMB, but I'm in Egypt!!! And can't leave any time soon due to my contract... Also, the teacher training course I mentioned is based here, so I think distance learning is the way forward. I totally agree - the DELTA is the best, but I'm going to do an MA when I get the funds together, and I can't afford to do a DELTA, especially when I've got a job lined up already...
But thanks for the info!! I know a few other people who don't have quite so many time and money limitations who are interested, so I'll pass that on to them...
