Hi all,
I arrived here in Valencia a week ago with my boyfriend and we've been trying to find an apartment for ourselves quite unsuccessfully for the last week. We've been to almost all the English academies in the the city and we're getting the same response-yes we need people but we dont know how many teachers just yet so hang in there and well get back to you. Unfortunately telling this to a potential landlord is no use they want to see that youve got a job before letting you move in. Has anyone else been through the same thing?? At the moment were staying in a hostel but this cant contine indefinitely. All info gretly appreciated.
Finally a word of warning-our mobile phone was stolen this morning as I was phoning a friend from a payphone near the train station so be wary of people trying to distract you as youre talking on the phone-now my contact number on my CV is useless so be careful!!
Cheers,
Flea. |

hi Flea. I got here to Valencia on Monday and have been having similar experiences to you. Ive managed to find a bit of work, and with contract, but nothing full time. Each city seems to have its different systems. I was in Seville last year and full time contracts were all the go. As for the nomina thing that you need for a rent contract I came up against the same thing in Seville. I was there with my girlfriend and nobody wanted to share a flat with a couple and it was tough to get our own because of the proof of work. The only other thing I could think of would be to try to get some kind of sponsorship. If you know anyone in Spain who could guarantee that youll pay your rent then maybe they could type something up for you. If not then take the risk of saying youve got a nomina, delaying the landlord and hoping that hell just accept you anyway because it would be too much hassle to readvertise the flat. Im trying to find a room in a flat and finding it a nightmare. I turned up to one yesterday and groups of five hopefuls were being shown round in shifts. I didnt think it would be this tough. If you fancy meeting up, give me a call-617 541 184. All the best. |

Hi abdoujaparov,
Thanks for the reply and helpful info. Well were at the end of our second week here and still no sign of any full time contracts-only offers of 2 or 3 hours/week so were seriously considering the fact that we may have to go back home if we havent managed to get some decent hours together by next weekend. As a result were now thinking about renting a double room in a shared house as its about the same rent that youd pay there for a month as youd pay in a hostel for a week as you never know-you could get a last minute job.
I didnt realise it was so difficult to find a room until I read your posting-it sounds crazy! We went to look at a room today which 4 other couples had looked and I thought that was lot of people!
Have you put an advertisement in El Trajin yet? Theyre free to place and you can do so over the phone-their number is 963030303. I also put an ad on the internet at www.compartepiso.com and I got a response from that 2 days later as well.
Best of luck on all fronts-let us know how you get on,
Flea |
