Given the current exchange rates, strength of the Euro, etc...how have y'all been doing with yer USDs? Did you take many dollars with you for exchange to your country?

Where have your dollars gone the farthest? (Thailand? Romania?)

Were you able to save any money from teaching to profitably transfer into USDs after your contract?

I'm dumb about the Yen...what value of JPY to USD?

I've got some money to bring with me and want to make best use of it. and I'm always open to ideas (esp. how to avoid taxes;-)

How to avoid taxes? Don't pay them. This is not a frivolous remark--I had my own accounting/tax firm in the States for several years before moving to Mexico.

Financially--but not in other ways--I have done best in Ecuador--where I was paid a relatively high salary in dollars. Here in Mexico I usually save half of my salary without skimping.

thanks, been_there,...i basically know where to find exchange rates but am less adept in interpreting them. so, am i correct to assume that the USD stretches pretty far in Russia and Czech, but loses steam against the EURO?......and i'm still confused about the JPY. If I went to Japan with 10-20K USD as cu$hion, will I be getting the better end of the exchange? (it appears so...but given the cost of living in urban Japan, I'm not so sure).

Moonraven, your salary in Equador (as well as Mexico) may also reflect your fluency in Spanish, no?. This Anglo hasn't got language skills, except for street English.

My salary in Ecuador was tax free 2,300 dollars a month for a dean's position, and reflected my experience as an educator.
