Hi everyone,
I'm living in Shanxi. This means my province has SARS. A lot. Well, not really a lot, but it's here. What I'm wondering is if anyone can give me some resources where I can monitor the spread of SARS on a day-to-day basis so I can be sure to be quarantined when the outbreak hits my school? I'm looking most specificaly for information on which cities the 84 cases in my province are in.
If you can help, super!
Thanks. |

And assuming the Chinese government does give a city by city break down, you are going to believe them???? |

CNN ran a story about an hour ago reporting that the authorities knowing the WHO reps were about to visit a famous hospital in Bejing not so long ago, bundled up the 30 some SARS patients (all doctors, nurses, etc.) and drove them around the city in ambulances while the WHO reps were present.
If true, transparency at its finest.
The story is also available on the CNN website.
Incredible. |

I live in Henan. People die every day with various diseases. I wish it wasn't true, but it is. If WHO came here ten years ago, They would have founds thousands of people dying with unidentified pneumonia. Unfortunately, the Chinese love of being modern has them treating everything with antiobiotics. Result...a worse disease.
Shanxi is no different. How many people do you think died five years ago as a result of an unknown strain of drug-resistant pneumonia? Don't give in to fear. It might be wise to avoid traveling by train on a holiday, though I often have. Unfortunately, in all countries, this is a problem with no solution in sight other then to take reasonable precautions against every day problems |

Chris, Sars has nothing to do with the use, or over use of antibiotics. It is a new type of VIRUS.
I agree that people need to take everyday precautions, etc... but the disease is more serious in parts of China and Hong Kong and I don't think it is unwise to avoid these areas if you don't have to go there.
Until people in China receive accurate data, the extent of this disease is unknown.

Yeah, the most amazing thing about Sars is the cover-up by the Chinese government. {ARE YOU READING THIS??} Remember that Aids epidemic in Henan (or it might have been Hunan)? Outrageous. It was all over BBC world (which got them banned in China) and various other news agencies. Ask the Chinese about this and they have NO KNOWLEDGE. The press conference about Sars in which various government officials were grilled made me laugh. It was like 'yeah, whatever, but we still don't give a shit what you foreingers think...' |
