wats beginning to bug me is dodging traffic but will soon adapt i guess. best thing about damascus ? No motorcycles allowed. great idea. strangely, i didnt realize it until someone pointed it out. i had just felt, for some odd reason, that traffic conditions were different from most other metro cities.

The hissing and kissy noises every time I walk past a man on the street!!! It was almost flattering to start with - now it's just annoying.
But aside from that, maybe the complete lack of food that doesn't make you gain 25 pounds at every meal... |

Walking into a store and being bombarded with welcoming shouts (and I do mean SHOUTS) from store clerks hidden around every corner--it hurts my ears and it seems superficial, because they do it without even looking!

Nomadder,
Do you need a hug?
(I'm not suggesting I'm the best person for the job. As you know, I'm pledged to Denise) |

My 3 year old now shouts back at them "rashae mashae" or however way you spell it. You should see the looks on their faces when a little blondy does that. |

Quit your griping, all of you.
At least you guys aren't stuck over here in China, where:
You can't leave the house without being stared / gawked at by everybody and his mother (OK, maybe you get this in Japan, too, but at least the mother won't curse at you as you pass by);
You get invited to a fancy meal, and discover it includes all of those tasty "local cuisine" delicacies you wouldn't touch with a ten - foot pole. "Yes, more chicken feet, please." Really, the '1000 - year eggs' don't look that bad. Green is a good color for eggs!;
The next time I hear, "You teach us English, we teach you Chinese, OK?" I am going to punch a hole in the wall;
There is really nothing to do on the weekends in my little town : as impressive as my DVD collection is, watching movies night after night while drinking (admittedly good) Chinese pijiu hardly constitutes a "social life";
When you do go out, you end up wishing you were back at home watching movies, rather than sitting in a dark musty bar filled with Chinese men and the odd girl or two, many of whom don't see the need to keep their clothes on (the men, not the women);
I came here thinking there would be lots of impressive scenery to look at, billowy Chinese willows and lush rice paddies, so here's a question: Are rivers supposed to be that sickly - looking shade of green / brown?;
The women are just plain weird, and not in a "quirky, goofy, cute," way. I mean in a "Why God Why" kind of way.
Actually, I love living here, these are just things that get to me sometimes. But either way, I want that damn hug! |

The most annoying thing to me at the moment and ever since this (school) year started is my (students) that do what they want and there is nothing I can do about it.
It is extremely annoying when 15 year old girls pretty much are telling you, "p#ss off, I don't like it", when asked to behave.
There is no form of discipline available. I was told to tell them to behave over and over.
Gee, big deal right? Go with it, man. Punch the clock and collect your pay.
How many of you can do that day in and day out? |

Wow, nomadder! You can smoke anywhere, play loud music, go to all night parties and everyone wears skin-tight clothing? How much would a ticket to Argentina set me back? |

Sweetsee, I feel sorry for you.
And speaking of the youth of today, my current annoyance relates to the young people in my part of the world (Melbourne, Australia) swearing constantly in public.
I did my fair share of swearing when younger but I always had a sense of when it might not be appropriate (in public places, for instance) and toned it down. These days though...
FULL VOLUME!
Can't they think of any other words to use?
"I bought this f___ing wicked album. I f___ing listened to it last night. F___ing awesome! What? John doesn't f____ing like it? That's 'cause he's a f____ing f_____!" |

small_human,
Thank you so much.
It probably wouldn't be so bad if I could be more un-caring, incompassionate and cold.
I used to swear a little and in the last few years made a point of never doing it. I hear others swearing and only pity their lack of education. It is rather base, isn't it?
Although, when I get excited and rapping with a mate sometimes I accidentally swear but try not to after. |

I once sat at my desk at home with the intention of jotting down the aspects of HK Chinese behaviour that annoy me the most, only to find this (what I thought would be a) modest little project balloon instantly out of control. Some 30,000-odd words and two years later I am still writing! Indeed, I now realise it would have been better if I had attempted to list those aspects of conduct that do not annoy me. |
