I have been teaching ESL for about 3 years now in Italy and in Quebec City, Canada. I've decided to apply to teacher's college in Ontario, Canada for next fall (2005) but would love to experience Japan before my courses begin. Could anyone tell me if there are short term contracts available. I would be able to teach from January to July or early August. I know I could apply to Nova and then break the contract but I'm not sure how comfortable I would feel doing that, plus, there is no guarnatee that my job would begin in January.
Thanks for your help.

Westgate hires on 3 month contracts. It will not be a picnic mind you, you will work a lot from the sounds of things.

If you are eligible for the working holiday visa, and can pay your airfare to get over here, there seems to be no shortage of smaller schools and tutoring agencies where you can probably work short\term... you will probably earn considerably less than you would with the big schools, but if experience is more important than money then that's one way to go.

Ivana,

Do you have names for such places? People have made similar comments like yours, but they have been unable to come up with a single reliable source. I ask because...

1. I would rather not like to see people's hopes get up, only to be dashed when they cannot locate such places, and

2. I keep lists of such information and would welcome adding it to mine.
