For an interesting comparison of the three professions, discerning readers might enjoy the following:

and the website www.englishteacherx.com in general. . .

Sorry, but I do consider myself to be 'discerning'. This is why I typically click no further on a Web site when I see the following style of capitalization, which is used mostly by adolescents and teenagers. It is definitely no longer trendy:

WELcoME To EnGLISh TEaCHEr

First glance at that web site gave me the following information to consider:

Cr@ppy salary?
PIRACY:No -- Equal share of the "booty"
TEACHING ENGLISH Generally
McDONALDS Yes

Considering that "teaching English" covers such a wide range of fields, from university to international schools to conversation schools to mainstream schools, this first tidbit seems over-generalized, and probably focused on only one aspect of teaching anyway.

(As for equal share of the booty in piracy, I have no experience in this, but if you don't raid someone very rich, it goes without saying that your take will be cr@ppy, right? Aww, just picking...)

Sorry, but nobody pays for his own training when he teaches English.

Me. 100%. Ah, I see I misread the original statement. Sorry.

As someone who's been working in the field of education for 30 years, almost 10 of those years in EFL, I readily admit that I enjoy reading English Teacher X's web site. His humor, wit, and writing style crack me up.

On the pirate topic, I also find the web site http://www.talklikeapirate.com/nigellog.html to provide humorous reading. Maybe it's just my warped sense of humor.

I agree, Mr. Bloc
Self-criticism and a search for truth combined with the ability to laugh at oneself while making others laugh...ok, maybe I'm going to far but he does crack me up and I'm glad to see he got a new IP address.
