I am very fortunate enough to be able to teach one of my classes more-or-less however I want. This is an advanced class whose member have made the "magical" 550 score on TOEFL - so my school is not worried about them.
So Im trying to make the course more interesting and useful for these students by introducing some Business English and stressing English as a way to explore world - not just to use to talk to "gringos"
So they have oral presentations this week - an idea of exporting some kind of Mexican product to a non-Spanish-speaking country (so they have to use English). Today I got to eat churros and wasabi laced with piquin (they spelled "pikin" for their Hawaiian target market) and "secret spices".
Im still feeling the effects of the wasabi-chile mixture they created - but I have to tell ya - I really liked it - burns upwards AND downwards! |

Very creative idea, thelmadatter. Have you posted it on teachers.net? I'm going steal it for my Spanish 2 class this year. |

For a while, Trader Joe's had a wonderful wasabi mayonaise. Unfortunately for some reason they discontinued it. Now some conglomerate, such a Kraft's, has it and it is just not the same. I suspect Trader Joe's sold the rights to them.
Anyway, wasabi anything is great. Here in Korea we get a cabbage slaw with a wasabi vinegar dressing that is killer.
Good luck with your creation- sounds great. |

Hey Alitas -
Im looking for a class of native English speakers learning Spanish to pair up with one of my English classes as "study buddies" Someone posted a site (www.myprofe.com/tandem/index.php) some time ago so that native English and native Spanish speakers can correct each others' writing but the site doesnt get enough traffic. Are you interested? if not do you know someone who might be? |
