Has anyone here had their belongings shipped from home to Vietnam? I'm talking about large quantities of books, CDs etc. If so, did you have any problems getting the shipment in, were the boxes tampered with, anything confiscated etc? I ask as I have a large quantity of books that I may want to ship over next year and some of them are of a political nature & may offend the Vietnamese authorities (ie. they're mostly left-wing books ha ha).
Cam on! |

I have had a few friends do it and you should be aware that you might be taxed on the stuff you bring in.

They will probably have to go through the Cultural Censorship desk and that is where you are taxed. I had some CD's and books sent and there was a small tax. I think the book was 8,000d and the CD was 2,000d (or the other way around), that wasn't much, but if you have a lot comming in it could ad up. |

When you arrive- do they go through and try to censor the books, music you bring in? Or tax you for it? I too am planning on bringing along a healthy dose of political reading- what should I expect? |

Thanks Micro - not worried about being taxed, more about having things confiscated, as my politics library is broadly anti-capitalist and that wouldn't sit well with the rapacious free marketeers in Hanoi |
