I'm considering doing Certificate course soon and one of the reasons for wanting to teach English is to get a measure of flexibility which will allow me to travel back and forth between London (home base) and India (family commitments).
I've seen a couple of threads on this board about India, but I was wondering if anyone has anymore info on teaching English in India. I'm familiar with the country but need to know if there are jobs out there, what sort, how much they pay, where they tend to be (anyone with ANY experience of teaching in Kolkata [used to be Calcutta] would be great).
Any info anyone can give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks

The only ESL-type jobs I've seen in India is working as a language trainer in call centers. I have actually just starting one such position. There are numerous jobs in Bangalore; I don't know about the rest of the country. Good luck. |

Hi Lisa,
I am of Indian origin too and working In the Caucasus at the moment. I have a friend of Indian origin who was based in Torronto but is now in KOLKATA and working as a trainer with the BPO industry. He might be able to give you some leads. I was in Kolkata and New Delhi in August and there is a lot going on there in India now. Anyway, write to him at [email protected] and tell him that I asked you to contact him. Or you can write to me and tell me more about just what you want to do in Kolkata... at [email protected]... Cheers for the post and best of luck.
