I am returning to Thailand in a couple of weeks and want to head back to Krabi where I was. The whole time I haave been in NZ looking at websites to find jobs I have never seen one advertised in Krabi. Do they jusy not have farang teachers, no schools, or all speak english so don't need to learn? Any suggestions on finding a job in Krabi. Also if anyone has spent some time recently living in Surat or Hat Yai I would love some feedback on how you found these places. I read that a lot of people find Hat Yai dead boring??? true???

thanks for any thoughts

Kia ora Patuna,
I lived in Surat about five years ago and I found it to be pretty lifeless. Granted I was scraping by with a wife and kid on a Rajabhat salary so perhaps my view of the place is a bit warped. I also have lived in Hat Yai. Hat Yai isn't too bad, but I prefer the seaside town of Songkhla, only 30 kms away.
If you are dead set on Krabi, go ahead and go. Check out commercial colleges, technical colleges, kindergartens, matayoms, prathoms, the full monty. Once you are there and people know what you are on about opportunities will come.
All the best.

Sawadee Patuna:

Here are a couple of possible leads for you in Krabi. The first two are language schools. If they're not hiring, they might know who is:

Anna's Language School / based in Phuket with branches
in Krabi & Trang: http://www.phuket-anna.com/index.htm

Krabi Language School
74/6 Panurat Rd
Paknam
Muang Krabi, Krabi 81000
Thailand
phone: 075 631 088

Kasetsart University also has a new campus in Krabi under development, which might be an interesting lead to follow: http://www.ku.ac.th/english2003/admission/krabi.html

(note - the Kasetsart link seems to crash at least once a day; if it's dead, try again tomorrow!)

And 3 websites with general information about Krabi. You might pick up some leads on the first two:

KrabiPost.com: http://www.krabipost.com/
Krabi Online Directory: http://www.krabidir.com/
Krabi Tourism: http://www.krabi-tourism.com/index.htm
