Hello all,

Though I have enjoyed life in Tokyo for the past three months( especially since I learned of a Costco in Tamasaki!), I would prefer to move north. I was looking at Niigata, Akita, Aomori, or Sapporo.

Does anyone one know general apartment rates for 1K, or what resources I could tap to search for a shared place?

Thanks!

For info on Sapporo, sadly, the homepages for the city deal only with hotels and guest houses. If you want info on apartments, you'll have to deal with either of the two information centers in town.

One is in the Sapporo train station center.
The other is called the Kokusai Plaza, and is located on the 3rd floor.

Here is a link to get you started. The people speak English quite well, and you might even get a fellow foreigner at the phones/fax if you are lucky.

I know that Niigata and Aomori are quite rainy (snowy in the winter). Sapporo, I've heard, has one of the driest climates in all of Japan which is very nice for outdoor lifestyles. The only city you mentioned that I've actually been to is Aomori. It's a lovely city, by Japanese standards. Personally though, I would want to check out Sapporo. There's much to do and see there, many hot springs, lovely countryside. It also has they winter ice festival which is world-famous. Try doing a web search for the US Consulate in Sapporo. They may be able to provide you with some better information for expats living in the area.
