Has anyone traveled overland from Hue to Laos? I've been told that there are buses that travel to Savannakhet. Does anyone know how long the bus ride is and what safety is like on the route and from the route from Savannakhet to Vientiane? Thanks

Round trip ticket from hcmc to hue is $105 and I'm guessing a one way train would be around $30 for a soft sleeper. Not sure about how long the train takes- 18-20 hours maybe? Airfare from hcmc to Laos though is $199 one way!

I made that trip in 2000 and cheaped out and took a bus. Laos is a beautiful country, but being packed into a bus for 34 hours (if I reecall collectry) on bad roads just isn't worth it.

Hello Greent,

What do you mean by a one way train is $30 for a soft sleeper and a round trip ticket is $105?

Hello:

Well, what a coincidence because I am leaving tonight from HCMC to Hue by train...I am leaving on the super express in a 1st class sleeper departing 2300 and arriving at 1642 next day for 675,000 Dong...a little less on slower trains depending on 1st, 2nd, or just seat but difference is only a few dollars so its best to go with the most comfortable Smile

The bus is only $19 but takes 2 days but you can get off and on wherever you want like Nha Trang etc...depends on your itenirary really...

Vietnam totally rocks man Very Happy

Dave
