Yes, post this in the Job Information bulletin.
It's a legitimate complaint. |

Anke - for those of us who remember your thread that was deleted, what happened to your formal complaint and the audit? |

I am at Quanzhou Normal Univeristy and I don't see any of the issues posted in this thread existing. The Univeristy is huge and a very new campus and appears to be run very well.
While the original poster of the thread may indeed of had some issues they have to be more personal than crated by QNU.
If anyone is cosidering coming here they should. I have been treated very nice and fair and given a brand new 3 bedroom apartment to live on in the campus. The staff and students are friendly and everything is going smooth. |

If I remember correctly you didn't even have the geography right just two or three weeks back; now you can vouchsafe for this university? You are making quantum leaps in Quanzhou, man! Or Quanzhou leaps, perhaps. |

I stand by my post. Quanzhou Normal Univeristy is a very decent place. I am a native New Yorker and thus always suspicious - there is nothing here that sends my spider sense tingling.
I have worked for several large U.S. corporations and there is always people who are dissatisfied. Perhaps the original thread poster was not happy.
Since I have arrived I have been treated royally by the administration and by the students and have not noticed anything out of the ordernary.
If anyone is thinking about coming here to work they should do it. |

Or, perhaps, conditions have changed considerably as a result of Miss Santens' expose and the protest letter campaign to the Chinese embassy (in Belgium) that followed thereafter.
I was personally very moved by Anke's accounts MOD EDIT and contacted her by e-mail in support. We maintained a brief correspondence and at no time did I get the impression that she was irrational or simply imagining what she alleged (and, in fact, in the time I've been in China, I have heard and personally observed worse than she claimed). I had no difficulty in believing her at the time and still do believe that there was, at the very least, some reality component to what she was experiencing.
I am also a native New Yorker and know a con when I see one; Miss Santens' report was sincere.
Jeff - I am so glad to read that conditions have improved considerably since Anke's departure. As you do not claim to have been present during the same period of time, you really have no first-hand knowledge of what transpired and therefore, you are in no position to offer an opinion as to what part of Miss Santens' and her 11 colleagues' difficulties were self-induced, if any.
It's rather impressive (if not startling) to learn that such a huge Chinese university as Quanzhou Normal is apparently running "very well" without any significant problems to report, from your perspective anyway. I also have worked for a large U.S. corporation (psych managed healthcare organization) and, although you are correct when you write "there is (sic) always people who are dissatisfied," it is also true that it would be virtually impossible to find anyone who couldn't identify at least one legitimate issue or problem to complain about. Consequently, I wish the administrators of Quanzhou Normal University would share the secrets of their new-found success with the rest of world.

I know nothing about the University, but I'd like to add that treatment can differ greatly between male and female foreigners at a school.
I have seen sexual harrassment towards female employees by leaders that treated the males very well. There can also be different treatment due to nationality, race and age.
It's not always easy to figure out if a school would be a good place for YOU. |
