I use her as an examle of unfetted promotion.

How can one person be a, countrys( I refer to HK), biggest ( one of the) karaoke, rock, dance music stars as well as a comedy, drama movie star, who, also works for the HK govt to promote English. Is she some kind of female Elvis?

Her image is everywhere in HK, not in the sense of a big brother but more the face of a massive markeing machine. Is she really this multi-talented? In The States critics line up to dismiss a star who tries to move from one genre to the other, remember Keanu Reeves and Dogstar.

I think in mainland China commercial marketing will become a force in propapaganda far greater than he government in the near future.

Dont say it happens everywhere like this...

Yeah, but Keanu Reeves is an average actor and Dogstar were a bunch of talentless nouveau hair metal posers. Oh, I see your point now.

Kelly Chen's face is seen in dozens of commercials on TV, billboards, etc in the mainland.

She is cute though.

She is utterly talentless though, completley airheaded and a bitch (you don't want to meet her!)

I met her about 5 years ago and she was ok. Mind you, she probably wasn't enjoying the same kind of fame that she is now. Tall bitch.

Arrogant? How did you gents come about meeting her? Do you agree with me that she is representative of a larger soulessness in HK?

Not completely talentless though, see doesnt write own songs, but can speak, guangdonghua, putonghua, Japanese and English. Not a bad dancer.......just dont see what makes her such an icon, cute yes, hot no.

I once knew some C-list actress in Hong Kong and went to party with her. There I met La Kelly along with Andy Lau, Karen Mok and other vacuous celebs. I was the only Gweilo there and they were all charming to my face, but they always are aren't they?

Two apparent oddballs - neither of whom actually reside in HK - 'discussing' the advertising virtues of (someone called) Kelly Chen. How interesting.

Shall we take it then that your respective places of residence do not exactly have much to offer in the way of entertainment? It sounds to me as if at least one of you is on the grim Mainland and is now bored with bootleg DVDs and now realise there is nothing else to do there.

No, no, no! He should be encouraged!

Very Happy

Not a fan of Kelly, "Luds"? I see her at least 25 times a day.

As for entertainment - what do you do? Count your bees? Or other nocturnal habits?

I smell a

Basically, yes we do see Kelly Chen everywhere. In HK she'll be in everything from tea shops to camera shops. She is essentially HK's biggest sellout.

She probably gets millions just from her advertisements.

Oh no, I think the biggest sell out has got to be Andy Lau. The guy will literally endorse anything for a few bucks.

2 over lee, I agree with you that Kelly Chen's popularity (and don't get me started on The twins!!) is indicative of a seriousl lack of soul here in HK. But the fact that she can speak a few languages doesn't make her "talented"!!

She can't sing, dance, or act and even looks weird.

Sorry, rant over!

It must burn Kelly's arse that Wong Faye is much more famous though...

Especially as Wong Faye is a peasant from the 'grim mainland'.

If she's getting lots of money I doubt she cares. I know I wouldn't.
