Does anyone have any experience or info about this large taiwan chain? From what I've read about the school, it sounds pretty intense with numerous teaching training programs before being employed. Teachers can get their TEFl certificate for free in one year which I thought was a bonus. Also the pay rate was about NT$58,000 a month for 30 teaching hours a week. Is that about standard in Taiwan or can I find a school with better pay?
If I compare with Korea, I was able to save over US$15,000 in just one year. How much do teachers in Taiwan normally save?

If you take a look through the site by using the 'search' function or even just scrolling through more than the first page you should be able to find lots of good info.

Good luck.

1) No, Hess's pay is not particularly good. Shane's is slightly lower, but they're they only school I've heard of that pays less than Hess.

2) The Hess TEFL certificate is apparently not recognized by anyone other than Hess. (I was with Hess for about six months and then described as an "experienced teacher" by other schools I applied to. Teaching experience is more valuable than Hess's certificate.)

3) Saving between 600 and 900 USD/month is feasible, depending on the number of hours you work.

4) 30 hours/week with schools like Hess will involve morning kindy and then afternoon/evening classes until 8:30-9:00 at night. Depending on your commute and the distance between branches, 30 hours/week can easily become 11 hour days. Most people transition to either better paying afternoon-evening jobs that allow them to work 20-25 hours/week or to full time kindy (an illegal, but daytime, job).

5) Pros of Hess: soft landing
Cons: indentured servitude

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Oh, and try the search function before posting again. Otherwise, BigWally might snap Smile

Do a search!!

If there are less than 300 posts on Hess I would be very surprised.

Private Messaging has been disabled on this board..

..at least that's the message I keep getting.

But the mods will probably delete this message 'cos I had the gall to mention it.
