I haven't seen Ludwig post anything but useless, insulting, vitriolic comments. There's nothing wrong with being honest (brutally if necessary sometimes), but reading posts on this forum is like watching children fight in the playground- pretty sad.
This particular Hong Kong forum is truly becoming useless. It seems like certain personailites are just waiting to pounce and twist every thread into a reason to beat their chests and abuse others.
Clearly this wasn't the intention of the forum.

He's generally a pain but occasionally comes up with the goods, just to surpise us all; you could just ignore him and reply to the previous posters.
And if you think he's vitriolic here you should read him on the China forum... |

Ah... I see the moderators have shown-up! (to edit my original post).
Interesting.
I guess my final line was rather redundant anyway so I'm only assuming the little snip was done for ascetics.
Next time I'll borrow a few choice phrases from Ludwig to ensure my words are protected in their original format ('pathetic', 'cretin', 'sniveling' all leap to the fore from a few of his most recent posts).
I'm sorry stillnosheep, but I have to disagree with you. I've been here a while too, orginally lurking and then contributing posts and I have never found Ludwig (or others of the same ilk) 'come-up with the goods' (not of any consequence at least). Even when they seem to provide useful information, it's so heavily wrapped in sarcasm and narcisim it's truly hard to take it seriously.
And god forbid one should disagree with them! They don't seem to be able to engage in civil discourse.
And yes, I generally do ignore them (advice I usually give), but sometimes I find myself going against my better judgement and posting an occassional response- as I'm doing now.
It really is sad, because if these people even possessed a fraction of the experience they claim to have, they could be well and truly useful. I guess it only goes to prove that wisdom doesn't necessarily spring from experience (if they even have it).
I have really found Dave's to be a useful source of information, tools and help. But this Hong Kong forum just gets sadder and sadder.
So before anyone has the chance to to tell me to leave if I don't like it, I'll save you the trouble and just leave (not that it really matters, I'm not that vain).
I'll check-in another time to see if people have learned to be civil. Again- not that it matters- it's just kind of sad to me to walk away from something I think could be so helpful, but due to a few, is turning into a cesspool where a few cretins are allowed to wallow around and throw mud on everyone else. So until next time boys and girls... the playground is all yours.
Cheers,
ryuro |

I doubt if you actually do mean "ascetics" here - that is, those who choose to live a simple life devoid of many physical pleasures. Perhaps I could be of some help to you; do you perhaps mean "aesthetics"? If so, I hope you do not claim to be an English teacher.

Do I detect (more than) a touch of (salient) paranoia? By the way, I think you may mean "snivelling". Once again, I do hope you do not manage to pass yourself off as an English teacher in whatever crudhole currently houses you. (I say currently, as since you appear to belong to the migratory bedsit brigade you obviously get to 'travel' a lot.)

I think you hit the nail on the head with your choice of words. 'Lurking', as way of example, is most apt, I feel. By the way, I think perhaps you may mean "narcissism".

Actually, what you are doing now is making a clear fool of yourself (as if any extra effort was required!)

Interesting preposition repetition drill routine you have there (or does it perhaps hint at a Neandertal-like stutter in real life)? |

Ryuro - I don't think it's got anything to do with this forum as such, but more to do with Hong Kong itself.
I lived in Hong Kong for a few years then left for the 'grim mainland' (to borrow a phrase). I still make frequent trips to Hong Kong for various reasons and also to see friends and family that live there.
Now that I live outside of Hong Kong I can get a more objective view of the place and the people that live there and can't help but feel that there's a great sense of 'oneupmanship' there.
I know people in various industries there (I don't know any teachers in HK, I admit) and there seems to be this underlying sense of paranoia about what the competition is doing.
It's kind of amusing to winess this.
Also, on chat forums such as this people will become much more bitchy than they wouldbe in real life. Especially men.
Oh, btw, "Ludwig" could you please correct my grammar, syntax and general 'bad English' as I would feel left out if you didn't.

You're right, ryuro. No one has answered a single question of mine on this forum or any PMs I have sent. |
