I have been teaching in Japan for 6 years. I teach at a great university and an attached juniour high school in Osaka. No stress of any kind and very good students. My salary is pretty good too. After tax about $40k US a year. I finish work by 2.30 every day and get about 5 months holidays a year. It's easy to save between 10k and 20k a year if you have any self restraint.
The only problem is though that I am in need of a change. I have a good relationship with my employer (I couldn't say boss as I really dont have one:) and would love to have a year in New Zealand.
So if you or anyone you know are up for a swap and of course can arrange it with your employer then I would be really interested. I guess the most important thing is that being British I don't have a work visa for NZ and so this would need to be taken care of. The Japanese visa is by comparison a pretty straight forward formaltiy. I am fairly flexible over what position I would consider but of course wouldn't give up what I have for some sweat shop.
Totally happy to fly down there one holiday to sort things out and I can make your transition to Japan a reasonably painless one too.
Hope to hear from somebody soon. |

I think you might be starting a new trend. EFL job swaps. Has this been done before? |
