Loaded up ahead of time like the ant, grasshopper. Aesopped another one up just a moment ago. Should last until it's time to Eid, drink and make...you know. |

As an "infidel", or even "kaffir", what should my response be?

I doubt that more than 0.1% of us are practising Muslims here on this forum, and I suspect that you (the OP) know this. So, what was the point?

Or as we like to say here in the Dagobah system during Ramadan, "May the Force be With You". |

Dear "Leeroy" -
The point is being polite. How does one respond? "Same to you!" when someone wishes you something that perhaps is not part of your own cultural experience but is well-meant in a friendly way. "Happy Thanksgiving!" for Americans; Merry Christmas!" said to non-Christians; Happy, merry, best, whatever, you can politely say "and the same to you". This is difficult?
What do you say if you are Christian and a Muslim or a Buddhist wishes you "Happy Easter"? Do you say "What the hell do you know about it?" or do you say "Thank you, same to you!"
And your point about this forum being primarily non-Muslim is what? Muslims are excluded? And if you wish Merry/Happy Christmas to everyone in the forum, only christians are allowed to reply "Thanks, same to you!"?
I find it unfortunate that you feel the question should be asked. In my mind, it raises the question, if you are an ESL/EFL teacher, how you handle multi-cultural diversity in your classroom.
And if the poster wants to wish well to (your estimate) the 0.1% of Muslims on this forum, is there a problem? Other than yours?
I welcome your comments; thanks very much.
Carnac
BTW, vre, you can jump in any time; this is, after all, your posting. |

It's my mum's birthday next Wednesday. On behalf of all here, I'd like to wish her a good one.
