Wouldn't it be great to have an annual Dave's esl cafe conference held in different countires each year where posters and ESL/EFL teachers from around the world could go and listen to experts in modern issues in TEFL/TESL? A conference... with a difference? Any suggestions about the difference?

Or would we end up killing each other?

Well, apart from the..er...'transience' of many posters on this board (psst - don't use the 'B' word, or the thread might be 'D' worded), there's also the issue of..uh...how shall we put it? - the somewhat less than gregarious nature of many online quasi-social butterflies?

I saw a documentary on cyberpunk once. They had an oh-so-terribly cutting-edge and hyper-cool soir for the pierced, studded, leather-clad denizens of cyber-space, and it was, albeit unintentionaly, hilarious! I've never seen so many tense, agoraphobic, chronic paranoids in my life. I'm sure they were all sitting around staring at their cyber-booted feet thinking " Oh god, I hope no one speaks to me! Ah F*ck! Someone LOOKED at me!!! What the f*ck do I do now? OH GOD!!!! MUMMMYYY!!!!". Smile

That would be so funny. I would be the first one there. No names. I wonder how long it would take to figure who's who. What a riot!

Good one Vre!

What would such a conference have to offer that current TESOL and other ELT related conferences dont?

that's why I asked for suggestions on it being a 'conference with a difference'. Any ideas?

Why don't we have poster sessions on different countries and people could come and hear about countries where they are interested in teaching?

Of course, schools would line up and pay lots of money to be able to set up booths and recruit teachers. Universities with Masters programs and TEFL schools would flog their programs.

There could be workshops on resume writing and professional development.

Great food with some int'l cuisine of course.

Where should we meet? Somewhere warm and cheap.

How about my mum's back garden? She can cook a killer roast for us all. She won't mind, I'll tell her she has to do it. Cool

There is -sort of-such a thing held every year in Korea. Kotesol...Dave himself -I think-usually gives a seminar. Think it's held in the fall so there might be one coming up.

Now that's a funny picture - all you superheroes with about 10 masks each all standing in line for the changing room or telephone booth Wink

The seating capacity would be in the thousands, but how many would actually be attending, I wonder Question
