Hola chicos
Can anyone tell me is it the norm to be asked by an academy to work on Saturday and/or Sunday??
I was told yesterday that I had a one-to-one, in-company,business class so I went along only to find out that this student is mostly free at the weekends and my boss said that I have to fit my class around his schedule (he calls to tell me what time hes free on the day of the class).
Now this seems a little strange-its like im on call on something waiting for him to phone me up. Does this happen normally or should I complain to my boss (he already knows the situation)?

Any chance you could get 24 hours' notice and a guarantee of two consecutive days off? Or, could you alternate the on-call weekends with another teacher? I wouldn't be happy with a situation like this, but I'm not sure how reasonable your boss is, how much you need the work, or how hard other jobs are to come by. If you feel like you're being taken advantage of, you're probably being taken advantage of. That's what it looks like from here; I don't know how typical this situation is there.
Hope it works out. |

Hey Flea
no that is absolutely not common....in fact I have never heard of such an arrangement
yes this is an inconvenience, to be treated like a doctor on call but receive teacher's wages
perhaps the school could make it up to you in other ways? |

Thanks for the advice muchachos,
Well I explained to my boss that I wasnt happy with the current situation and he said that it was up to my student and I to work it out between us so I guess thats better than nothing. Ill have to see what we can work out but I know for sure that Sundays are going to be reserved exclusively for the beach!!
Un saludo

Ive had to work Saturday mornings for two of my contracts in Spain (though thankfully not my current one), though they were fixed hours not an "on call basis" and how I hated it. Split shifts, one day weekends and low salary! Yay! Can I be a teacher, please? |
