Those of us who've been reading these forums a while know that, every once in a while, an obnoxious sort comes along. He hijacks entire threads with his nonsense. He posts rude and senseless comments and is direspectful of the forum's rules and purpose. When I first joined this forum, it was a user calling himself "trinity." Then, there was a certain Jason_Seeburn. Now, it seems, the torch has been passed. We have a new village you know what. So, until he gets posting here out of his system, we might as well have some fun.

Personally, I think it's very hard to be charming in an online forum. I hit and run a lot of boards because I'm trying to post and I end up being obnoxious. So I have a lot of sympathy for people who are unpopular in online posting.

In the dark old days of Usenet, people used to have "killfiles." In the relatively slick, PHP-based boards of 2004, there seem to be no killfiles. If they existed, everyone who didn't want to read him could killfile him and there would be an end to it.

Now I suppose someone will point me to a FAQ that says that killfiles do exist, and I'll have to eat crow. Hmm. I've checked the FAQs, but I see no comment on killfiles.

Quote:

This software was written by and licensed through phpBB Group. If you believe a feature needs to be added then please visit the phpbb.com website and see what the phpBB Group has to say. Please do not post feature requests to the board at phpbb.com, as the Group uses sourceforge to handle tasking of new features. Please read through the forums and see what, if any, our position may already be for features and then follow the procedure given there.

Perhaps I should slouch over to sourceforge and agitate for killfiles.

So, you see, AKATDN (what does that stand for, anyway? Also known as the damn newbie?) has inspired contributions to open-source software. Karma moves in circles, and suffering (dhuka) leads to improved open-source software.
