Dont be fooled. I know some of us are tempted to be lured in, and attracted to anything Canadian. I mean, the connotation is that of honesty, integrity, and a straight-deal, right? Well, dont be fooled. A recruiting company, is a recruiting company, regardless of who runs it.
I recently had a horrible experience with Canadians with Seoul. Now, I cant tell you that this goes for all three guys that run the company, but the guy that I dealt with was not cool. Although, he definitely wanted me to think he was. I was lured in, and told about this amazing job opportunity teaching in Korea. I bit, and I chewed, but what I ended up having to swallow, was not at all what I was baited with!
Please, remember this, do not trust recruiters! Take what they say with a grain of salt. And if it sounds too good to be true, a little too perfect, then it probably is! I was led to believe that it was normal for me to pay my own way to Korea, and to be reimbursed after I got here. This is not true! If you are heading here, make sure the company pays your way - up front! Also, do not work illegally, waiting for the company to send you to Japan to get your visa A company that is willing to have you work illegally, is probably not a reputable firm, and probably a school you want to stay away from! You will be put into a very compromising position and your school will be able to do whatever they want and you wont have any legal recourse. Get your visa before you come, or get them to send you to Japan as soon as you get here.
Your recruiter is working for the school that hires you, not for YOU! Remember this! The school pays the recruiter, so the recruiter is more concerned with making the school happy, than with making you happy! I was told all kinds of things about how amazing my job would be definitely exaggerated And my recruiter seemed so interested in my arrival and helping me out - but once I got here where was he? I had to constantly email, or phone him in order to get any response! I had to wait 2 months to get the money for my plane ticket, and to go to Japan. In the meantime, I was working illegally, and my school was having all kinds of financial problems But, there was nothing I could do about it. If I complained to the labour board, or immigration, I would be in shit for working illegally.
I tried to get out - to find another job, (and I got offered some much better positions! - that I found on my own, thank you very much recruiter!) but my school had all my paperwork, so I was stuck! Please dont let this happen to you. It was a nightmare and I had no one to turn to.
Im not saying, dont use Canadians with Seoul, but just beware, and do not be fooled by the Canadian content of their name. I dont think they should be allowed to use it!!! They advertise themselves as Canucks you can trust but its false advertising! Take care, good luck, best wishes!!!
