Ok, it's probably been covered 1000 times before on this forum but... What's the cheapest, most reliable way of getting money home from Hong Kong? Home is England (HSBC screaming for some repayments!) and my HK account is with the little known Liu Chong Hing Bank. Any ideas?

Get the swift number of the HSBC branch you need to wire money to, and give that, plus the address of the branch to your bank manager at Liu Chong Hing, they should be able to make the transfer within five working days.

A faster option is Western Union, where you have to pay a larger fee, but the money is available within ten minutes - there are branches all over HK (in Admiralty and at all the Star Ferry terminals off the top of my head). Just send the mone to someone you trust to deal with your bank.

I use HSBC online. Of late, with all the hacker problems, they have been quite particular about sending money online, so you may need to go into a branch and get it all set up. That said, once set up, it is a piece of cake and the charges are reasonable. It also goes over night. I send money to Canada and (aside from a weekend transfer) it has never taken more than 24 hours for the person to get the fund.
