Does anyone know of a low cost way to ship some of my belongings to Thailand? I can't bring everything on an airplane, so I want to ship some boxes to my fiancee's parents house. Any ideas?

In most cases, I think it's cheaper to replace things with new than it is to ship internationally.
Decide what you MUST take with you, then bring it with you as "excess baggage", when you fly, rather than sending it by airfreight. It'll still be expensive, but less so, and you'll be less likely to run into "hidden" costs when clearing your luggage through customs, than trying to clear cargo through customs. |

I don't think it (bringing it as excess baggage can cost a fortune) would be cheaper than to ship it, but you're right about the hidden costs part!
If you ship stuff over on your FIRST 6 month extension (either with a WP, or funds depending on what Visa you have) you should (in theory) be able to avoid the customs tax (or whatever it is) completely! |
