It would be interesting to receive some feedback from Yaramaz, about her new job in Istanbul, and how it compares with the previous one she held in Kayseri for two years.

One might assume that "no news is good news," but her long silence is of concern, nevertheless, and all the people who know and appreciate her are waiting for the skinny on her new job and living situation.

Yaramaz is happy. Yaramaz is glad to see people care enough to make her the topic of discussion. Yaramaz is planning to stay in Turkiye ad infinitum because her current situation is so much saner and fulfilling(and split-shifted) than her previous one. Yaramaz was also wondering if anyone wants to go for a beer this weekend.

love

yaramaz

Yes - that's good, but it would be interesting to know how far Yaramaz's salary goes in Istanbul? plus the rent situation? Of course in Kayseri, Yaramaz had the advantage of free accommodation, and meals that were almost free in the school cafeteria (1 million per meal). In Istanbul, one can imagine Yaramaz living it up each night, making up for the 2 years of relative nun like existence in the hinterlands of Kayseri.

On another note, it was interesting to read about the poll which states that 75% of the French would vote against Turkey joining the European Union, if a referendum took place. France is the country with the most vociferous opposition to the union, no doubt, caused, in part, by the problems at present with the large population of Maghreb (French people of Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian origin) people. And although the Turks are very different from North Africans, racially and culturally, they are associated, by many French, as being "those dangerous muslims."

Dangerous Muslims????? Hardly. It's early ramazan and the dangerous Muslims around here are all being fierce and fundamentalist by, er, sitting in droves in cafes and eating, drinking, and smoking. I was the one who was reluctant to eat in public (Kayseri influences).

As for money-- of course I am not saving as much as in Kayseri. However, I can save some and I am much happier over all. I prefer living now and having less cash for later rather than feeling like I am missing out on things I love but saving half my salary. Its a trade off, like anything in lıfe.

That's a pretty good philosophy, Yaramaz...live and spend now, and worry about things later...but you still need to save something.

If you are interested in a financial advisor, ghost has one in Montreal, and you may send him an e-mail, if you would like to know how to funnel some of your cash into a viable retirement fund.....the sooner you do this the better.

Life in the big city (Istanbul) is great for you, after your two years in Kayseri.

By the way, your good South African friend (Jacko fan) was thrown out onto the street from his job in Eskisehir. It all ended badly for him there. He is back in South Africa, but will soon be in London (England) on a work visa. He plans to use London as a base, so you may see him again.

Ghost,

It's not so much a matter of spend now and worry later. I saved almost 10 000 pounds over the past two years. I am still saving but not as much. I would prefer to have a life now rather than be rich and feeling like I am missing out. I have a financial advisor in Canada already and have been investing and saving for years, even on my piddly salaries. I plan to keep on saving. It isn't impossible to do here- just depends on your priorities.
