Hi, I'm actually in Chicago, but am looking into living in either Beijing or Shanghai for a while. I am a journalist, but plan to teach English to get acquainted with things there.
I read about a school in Shanghai called Kai in English -- it sounds as if the owner has innovative ideas and would be good to work for.
Does anyone have recommendations for schools in Beijing and Shanghai that are pro-teacher and have good learning methods, and also pay decently?
Thanks, I'd be interested. |

Probably not a school but a training centre; methinks I have seen "Kai Eng" a number of times in posts. Go to the Job Info board! |

Hi Slim,
I don't know that much about Gangzhou, but I've lived in New York, Chicago, Montana and Houston (which is actually very international). Although Chicago is lovable and has its good points, it isn't as much my cup of tea as New York is. Also, I'm a travel writer, so I'd like to experience an entire country, not just certain ethnic neighborhoods.
Good luck in Gangzhou. |

Thanks, Millie! I guess you meant 'no significant complaints,' right? |

I visited Kai En a few months ago. I was impressed. It seems that they do actually have some innovative ideas on teaching. They also have some teacher trainers that they bring in from the UK. These guys get paid big money it seems and their job is to focus on teaching quality. They told me how they want to become the IH of China, that is, the school with hte best reputation for academic quality, etc.
I don't know what it is like to work for them or if they can actually deliver on these claims, but it is reassuring to see that they appear to take academic ideas seriously. |
