Hello,
After all the research I've done on teaching in Spain, I feel silly asking this, but what kinds of schools are you all applying to?
Public schools where you teach children? Private language schools geared toward adults? Or something altogether different?
I plan to teach in Salamanca, a small-to-medium sized city, at least it seemed to me.
Thank you,

Id always presumed that people were talking about private language schools (though not necessarily geared towards adults). Work in the public sector often (always?) requires specific in-country qualifications (like the CAP in Catalonia, I believe?) which we humble ESOL teachers often don't possess. Well, I dont anyway. As has been said on here, oh, at least once, work can be found in smaller cities but your best bet is Madrid or Barcelona. Have you had a good look around Salamanca? |

Thanks for the reply. While I didn't look around for jobs in Salamanca while I was there--I studied there for a summer during college--I've gathered a list of language schools by going to Goabroad.com. I basically used the site to search for places in Salamanca to study English, as if I were the student seeking English.
Salamanca seems a bit more busy and "contemporary" than other cities of its size, because of its university students, commerce, and tourism. I'm hoping this will work in my favor to find a position. Or maybe I'm just wearing rose-colored glasses...

Have you also tried looking in the local yellow pages for work? If you love the city so much, go for it -- you should be able to find something, eh. If I were you I'd stress the fact that I'd lived there before, loved the city and wanted to stick around. Schools tend to like the idea that a teacher isn't too transient (unlike myself). |
