Any former or current teachers for them? So far, I have had a great experience with them...any questions i have are answered promptly, and contact names of current and former teachers were given. I'm a new teacher in taiwan (never been there), so any info...GOOD and not so good, please share. |

they are individually owned and operated (hit or miss, good management or bad!). Should be paying you well, 700/hour sounds about right. Don't sign anything that says they will take off deposits.
good luck |

That means you have to research the individual school you intend to teach at. If the person hiring you won't give you the information about the school such as the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the school and the management in Chinese or English then they are recruiters and you should avoid them like the plague.

Good luck,

thanks for the info. he has not asked for a deposit, he's been pretty upfront with all information, answered all my questions, and i am currently talking to a teacher (who i would be rooming with). they both seem great! i'm having my contracts (with this school adn another one...i have to choose which one i like best) by my lawyer. but i dont see anything questionable in them. so far, the schools in taiwan seem better then the ones in japan....i feel more comfortable with these schools then the people/schools i talked to in japan. |

Dear Canadian-girl, (that sure doesn't sound politically-correct!)
The only contract with any validity is the one (in Chinese) that states you will teach at least 14 hours per week at your sponsoring school. No additional contracts have any validity whatsoever...regardless of whether the language is English, Chinese, or both.
Any so-called 'contract' that gets into details (such as: bonuses, vacation days, lateness, dress codes) is worth less than a blank sheet of paper---legally speaking.
You can consider such documents as a 'statement of understanding' or an 'agreement' (in non-legal terms) but I can assure you that no court in Taiwan cares about anything mentioned in these supplemental documents.
Best wishes as you begin this adventure. Keep posting any issues that might come up.
