Last night the typhoon kept me up all hours. Couldn't sleep, cause I kept on thinking about earthquakes and hearing the rattling rain. Woke up this morning and took a stroll.
Not much but broken branches and flying bags. Made me feel after a midWestern tornado. Something could still leap out and get you. Even the open fruit market was closed.
THen I saw a cat tackling a huge white pigeon. THe pigeon broke free and flapped off. Saw a huge shepherd sniffing for its right tree. The rain gathered in lakes on the lawn. So I sat down.
I thought about the midWest and how green everthing looked before, and after, a storm. Wondered about Taiwan and the miniscule existence I live here and others live, ekking out a living of sorts. My roommate's shirt flew into the plants outside. THe rocks and plants were scattered. I scratched my head and felt like calling someone, just to say Hello, it's here again, This damn rain. . .can't get out of here. . .just like the Taiwanese. . .Thanks for listening. BTW: We're sliding here but not towards CHina. It's more like we're sliding towards HongKong, and still hoping for the best.
Yet the Taiwanese floor me. THey up and go, making their way, staunch and resistant. I listen to the wind for sounds, for motion. One bag slaps me in the face. I laugh, up and go to a 7-eleven and count my lucky stars. |
