Was just thinking that isn't it about time that TEFL teachers had some kind of supporting body in the UK (not to mention internationally too). Seems to me that so much effort is put into 'what can I get from teaching TEFL' rather than 'lets set up a support body for the interests of TEFL teachers'. If the industry had a proper support body or organisation that stood up for the welfare, rights and conditions of TEFl/TESOL teachers there wouldn't be so much complaining on these boards. Additional benefits would invariably be higher wages, better employers and better qualified status. Just a thought.... |

Absolutely. Didn't see your message when I started a similar thread last December. A new e-group has been set up recently, to discuss setting up EFL unions/joining existing unions. To join the group, go to [email protected]. The GMB represents EFL teachers in the UK, and I think encouraging as many EFL teachers to join up to them as possible is the best way forward. |
