I was just contacted by a school stating that I was required to provide a police record. Is this normal...this is the first I've heard of it...it's no problem for me...I'm just cheap and don't want to pay the 50$ Canadian if I don't have to.

What kind of school is it?

I have been teaching in China for nearly three years and I have never had to produce a police record of any kind, not even in support of my application to teach at the public primary school where I have been teaching since February this year.

If you wanted to teach at a public school in the UK, you would certainly have to produce a police record, including from all overseas countries you have lived in for over a certain amount of time. Yet I have never, ever heard of anybody having to produce a police record in support of an application to teach at a school in China. I'm very puzzled.

Yes, I have never really heard about it before. Though schools say this from time to time if there are children involved.

I think you have already answered your question. If you don't want to spend your money then don't. There are many other places that don't ask for this. It really depends if you want this job or wait for another.

You can call them bluff and say no but they may think you have a record! haha.

Hi,

I've heard of it once before, for a international kindergarten in Shanghai. If you REALLY want the job, then go ahead. Otherwise, there's plenty of others.

Good luck.

My bosses asked me to get one just before i left Australia ( even though I had a small marijuana conviction 25 years ago I sgot one that said i havent got a record now. I didnt think I needed one, no one else asks for one but I think if the schools are trying to cover all bases and if the visa issuer wants to make it hard by asking for one i is already done. As far as I know all big cxompanies in China do it with all their ex pats.

Or you can say "No problem. But you have to pay for it".

I would.

I ended up getting it...cost 35 dollars and took ten minutes. I thought it was going to be a hassle.
