I was in taiwan on this day was anyone else there
i was asleep it was about 2am
when i was woken up with what i thought was a train running through my room.
it wasnt a train it was an earthquake.i managed to get out of bed put on my shoes while trying to keep my balence and get out side with all the other people.it was scary and exciting at the same time.
i feel that i was very very lucky to be alive as 2500 people lost there lives during this earthquake.
was anyone else there during this time?what thoughts went through your head? |

No, and good comment, because I was in the last earthquake wondering just the same. That las one reminds me of a streak of bad luck the Taiwanese had, but not this huge one. It's like eveyone is prepared for it now, all has the jitters.
I stand here and reflect. It makes you wonder how lucky you are in light of such damaging destruction. Just heard about Japan. Taiwan would be a matchstick house compared to Japan, so now I hold my breath and count down from 100, waiting for the baby boomers to appear. No one is prepared here. Fate is just fate. |

about 30mins to an hour after the 1st shake we had a 6.9 aftershock i was close to a big truck all 4 wheels of the truck came off the ground.
about a month later i was on the bus going to my teaching job.we had another big aftershock the bus almost tipped over.
i was in taiwan for about 2 months i wanted to stay but could not get work visa due to no uni qulifications.
but up until the time i left we had aftershocks everyday.when i was in taiwan i did not really have time to reflect on what had just happend.when i got hm to new zealand i broke down.
one guy who was living with us lost the plot due to loseing his blance.
i did not sleep for 3 weeks went a little crazy for a while.
the western teachers that i was with all put 500NT to buy food and water and made a donation to the people who were hit hard. |

THis is good, Mandu. It's called Trauma. JUst being at home makes me traumatized. that's all. It'd be good if the board or someone posted some safety precautions o help us out here. And yes, I'd give a donation. But the Taiwanese always seem to give a hoot about eachother, so it makes you look bad, and that as a Westerner.
Try this for an attitude check.My room's now a mess. I leave it that way and don't care. NOt because of quakes, but becuase of he lack of comraderie and Western neighborly love.

No one knows where a quake will stike hardest., so give it to a charity group. |
