|
|
Hi,
I am a new teacher trying to figure out how to get a visa to teach in Nanning, Guanxi, China.
I have tried the Chinese Embassy website and found it rather frustrating.
Could anyone please tell me exactly which docs I need to get my work visa for China and what I need to do with them before I send them the embassy to apply for my work visa.
I have a copy of a letter of invitation for a school already, do I require the original?
All help greatly appreciated, Thanks |

Hello there fellow Canadian!
I found the website a little confusing too and when I called the embassy, it didnt help to much
What you want to do is head down to your local (maybe not local but depending where you are there is a designated embassy for you) and bring those papers with you. You do need the originals. Now, I would show up as early as possible to when the doors open to the Visa section cause the line-ups could be HUGE.
Now, from what ive been told, even if you check of a multi visa, they wont give you one outside of China so your Visa should only cost 50 CAD. You dont need to pay it when you drop the forms off but when you pick up your visa and passport, bring the money. Ohh ya, bring your passport. LOL
You should try and download the form, print it and fill it out before you go to the Visa office cause, again, the line ups and lack of forms (I saw none when I was there) Try checking different embassy websites for the form but fill it out before hand. Hope this helps.
WOW, your from Thunder Bay !. Thats where i went to University. Graduated this past April :+) |

You can just apply for a tourist visa, arrive in China, and have the school do the invitation letters and paperwork in the country. It's a win-win solution, less red tape for everone. Although I must stress that you do this at your own risk, but it's a common practice.

I am with struelle on this one. Get your tourist visa and then come over here.
Your school will have an easy time processing your Z visa once you arrive. Rules and regulations are always changing within the PRC and the folks on the outside are even more confused than the folks on the inside.
just my two cents |

Hello,
First thanks to all who have replied so far. The school says they won't consider trying to change a tourist visa to work visa, and they are unwilling it seems to get me the necessary documents to apply for my work visa. In their words it takes to long.
I guess there just yankin' my chain.
Later, mgm |

I had a similar problem trying to figure out my Visa when coming to China. The embassy in Vancouver was of no help, partially due to the fact that their phone number on all printed material and the website is wrong. In the end I just had my travel agent take care of it, they sent me all the papers I needed, I filled them out and they took them to the embassy. It cost an extra $10 but was worth not having to deal with the embassy directly.
Hope this helps. |

What's the name of this school if you don't mind my asking. I'm in Nanning and I've never heard of any school not changing an L visa to a Z visa unless of course they aren't even allowed to hire foreigners or are too stupid to figure out what everyone else has. The Chinese consulates usually have twice as much red tape and are totally unnecessary. |
