I'm currently working for a college in Shandong province that I would like to leave. Does anyone know about contract releases. Does a release cancel your working visa? I have a working visa good til next July, I got it in Canada with the papers the school sent me. If it cancels my visa, must I leave the country or can I travel to another destination and start work there. Will my visa and other permits still be good til the expiry date in July 2005? What does a release look like, will they actually give you a piece of paper? Does the work visa have the name of the school on it-I think it does. When I leave here after my 6 month contract is up, will my work visa be cancelled, can the school cancel it. Tell all about releases and work visa's please, I need an education in these areas--thanks in advance for the help... |

Are you working in Tai'an? Just wondering as I was offered a job for a 'college' there some time ago.
If you wish to leave your company & begin work for another company or move to another area you need to get 'released' from you current company. This mean your employer will go to the PSB, get your Visa/Residence stamped for release - you can then go to your next employer/place and get as new residence card & visa: without this you will have major problems.
I'm not sure about this but I am guessing that the school cannot cancel your visa on condition that you have it & they don't - meaning you can stay in China - but unless you are 'released' you won't be able to extend or legally work for another company.

And why would you quit in the first place, mate?
You must have a valid reason for walking out in the middle of your tenure; if you leave your employer in the lurch you are liable to pay a penalty.
Whether they are so generous as to issue you with a release letter entirely depends on their goodwill.
While they cannot do anything about your visa, they can refuse to give you that release letter; you will then be unable to join another school LEGALLY. Maybe someone hires you without the necessary paperwork - but that goes at your risk!
A release letter essentially states that you and they have voluntarily parted company; it has to be stamped by the local PSB.
The new employer will probably have to apply for a new visa, new residence permit and new fe certificate. Your old visa cannot be transferred to a new place of employment! Why should it? |
