Woo Hoo,
As of today, I am a card carrying member of the Alien Resident's Party. Now, all I need is the health insurance. Can anyone tell me how long I should have to wait? I have some non-essential, but really helpful, medications I've been holding off on getting here.
I was told, by a less than reliable source, that I could probably go to the doctor with just my ARC and they would hold the bill until my health insurance becomes available. Is this right? |

Your health card should follow fairly soon. If you want to see a doc, it isn't an overly expensive thing to do, even sans med insurance. But, if you got your ARC card recently, your med card will be along shortly. Even more good new: dentistry is covered. You have to be careful when choosing a dentist here. However, a root canal that was going to break the bank back in Canada, cost me 200 NT to do here with the national health card. CHEAP! |

Prior to the change in regulations last year you were allowed two weeks to return with your NHIC card to the place you sought the medical care or meds to get a refund. The time limit has been extended but it seems to vary depending on which NHIC official you ask. You would be better off going to a national hospital and seeking treatment there as larger institutions are more likely to follow some of the regulations set by the government that pertain to the very few rights you have as a patient in Taiwan.
If you have to wait more than two weeks for your NHIC card (more than likely) file a written complaint with the NHIC registration office.

Good luck,

My friend lost his health card and needed medical attention. He had to pay the amount in full but was given 7 working days to bring his card to the hospital and then get a refund of the extra amount. This was this month so I figure it'd work the same for you. |

This is what I have always known to be true. You have seven days to return to the hospital which you paid the fees at for a partial refund.
I don't know where Aristotle got the two weeks business from. Maybe he could provide a link or something to show where the changes were made extending this period even further.
Until such a time as link is forthcoming I would suggest that expect to have seven days to return for a partial refund. |
