Since we have the Top Three Comedy Shows thread, I thought I'd add the Top Three Dramas thread.
My current top three:
1. Lost (awesome show...three episodes and I'm an addict already)
2. ER
3. Sue Thomas F.B.Eye
What are your favourites? |

(What does "OT" mean?)
I thought I'd chuck in an honourable mention for The Sopranos. |

That's quite a difficult one, actually. I think mine would be (in no order):
The Sopranos
This Life
Byker Grove circa 94
I may reconsider the last one later. |

Back when I was 14, that was pronounced
"Bai'a... bai'a... bai'aa Grorrrv!"
Ah! The Good Old Days - give me another bottle of wine and I'll be waxing lyrical about Pigeon Street, Choc-a-bloc and Andi-Pandi... |

1. The first few years of ER - - awesome!
2. The first couple seasons of The Practice - - really enjoyed.
3. I don't know if it qualifies as a "drama", but Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I'm sad it's gone).
I've heard good things about Nip/Tuck and I now have it on my satellite here in China, so I will make an effort to check it out. |

America TV is a lot better than it was in the 70s and 80s - shows like '6 Feet Under', 'Sex and the City', 'The Sopranos', '24', 'The West Wing' have all challenged moribund TV norms.
Still, it's a difficult one this...
Right now I'll go for:
Inspector Morse (the greatest fictional detective since Holmes).
Prisoner/early Avengers (for their all-round, delightful weirdness).
Dr Who - from Patrick Troughton to Peter Davidson (appalling special effects but great scrips from the likes of Douglas Adams). |

ER
Boston Legal - New entry by David Kelly, replacing "The Practice."
Don't have cable; don't want cable. I buy each season of the Sopranos when it's released on DVD. Quite good.
Cap'n Yoss: Inspector Morse, excellent; Holmes was the greatest!
Robert: Prime Suspect, indeed, is the finest television production I've ever seen. Why is it that British TV and movies, produced with budgets a fraction of those in Hollywood, are so much better? Strictly a nonsense question. Prime Suspect 6 is the best so far. Seen it yet?
Overall-Still-My-Favorite: Fawlty Towers!
Valley Girl: Don't care too awfully much for "Lost," but occasionally look at it for a few minutes to reminisce. It's filmed in a valley in Ka'aawa on the island of Oahu. Years ago, when I was teaching in Hawaii, we lived about a half-mile down the road from this idylic place, just across from the beach. Each morning, our three young sons would walk to a little country school, followed by their dog, Bluto, who'd wait outside on the schoolgrounds and join them for lunch. At night (no TV), we'd walk along the beach, watching the moon rise from the ocean, as Bluto chased sand crabs. Those years are the fondest memories of our lives. "No other place in all the world holds such deep strong charm for me as that one. No other place could so longingly and so beseechingly haunt me, sleeping and waking, for half a lifetime as that one has done. In my nostrils still live the breath of flowers that perished 20 years ago." (Mark Twain)
cheers,

OT = Off-Topic
This thread is not related to work or ESL in any way so I threw in a little 'disclaimer' for the discerning lurkers/posters out there. |

I understand that the actors are having lots of BBQs on the beach and doing a bit of skinny dipping in between takes. Sounds like a rough job!
Lost is on tonight, actually. You watching, Ex? |

Midsomer Murders - how can one quaint English area have so many bodies?!
Scales of Justice - a 3 part Aussie drama which caused a huge stink when it aired and resulted in a Parliamentary enquiry.
OK, it's not really a drama but a doco currently showing on the BBC - The Power of Nightmares focussing on how the powers that be have a vested interest in keeping us all afraid but inventing bogey men and phantom threats. |
