Anyone know of an internet cafe in Kaohsiung that you can connect with your laptop? Or simply a cafe that you can use the disk drive on the computers. I need to print some things off my computer. I'm staying by the train station, directions would be great. Thanks |

Hey somanyroads,
The road that runs along the south side of the train station is called Chien-kuo Road. If you go east on this road, you will soon hit 'computer alley' in Kaohsiung.
Just peep in the windows...there are likely several internet cafes. What you will see mostly are retail stores and shops that repair computers, but I am sure that someone can point you in the right direction.
In the larger stores, there is surely someone who can understand this much English! Give it a try!
Best wishes.

P.S. If you want to try speaking in Chinese, you can say: wao yiao-4 ing-4 dong shi. Hold the disc when you say it, if necessary.
On the ones marked with a 4, you have to say them very sharply. |

The other day I saw some business types printing stuff off their laptops using the photocopy machines at the local 7-11. Try them. The news is otherwise bad re:printing in Taiwan. Internet cafes here seem to be strictly for gaming. They often don't have printing facilities. Ditto for laptop hookups. On the other hand, home internet is relatively cheap. |

Thanks for the advice. We've decided that Kaohsiung isn't the place for us though and we've moved up to Tainan which seems a lot more relaxed of a city. I'm gonna give the 7-11 thing a try. Cheers |
