I need a new computer. Alas I am a bit of a technoligically challenged individual. Thing is I only use it for the internet. I would though prefer an all english enviroment. So what machine do you think I should buy? I want the cheapest machine that can efficiently do the job. I really am confused by all the choice. I live in Osaka and if anybody can just say a shop name, model and price I would be ever so grateful.

Are you looking for a laptop or desktop? What is your price range?

If your looking into getting an entry level laptop shipped in, I suggest you look into getting either an HP (Hewlett Packard) of a Toshiba. There going for dirt cheap right now back in Canada.www.bestbuy.ca www.futureshop.ca I personally own a HP Pentium 4 and it has been flawless since the day I recieved it. Good luck and stay away from the comps they sell in Japan.

Every copy of OS X I've ever owned (all purchased at normal outlets in the US) gave me an option of what language I'd like to use for the installation process, as well as what languages to install on the computer. Using the copy of OS X I bought in the US, I could have set up a system completely in Japanese (or French or Arabic or...). So far as Japanese copies of OS X are the same (and I can't imagine why they wouldn't have been), your friend shouldn't have had to import a Mac just to get it to speak English to him.

In college, I worked in the IT departments maintaining computer labs, and we actually had the Macs set up with different user accounts in different languages, so that an exchange students could get a Mac in their language just by selecting the appropriate user account.

Many Linux distros work the same way in respect to installing off-the-shelf in any language you could wish -- In fact, I'm quite surprised that Windows apparently doesn't work this way...
