I'm a British teacher working in a University in Xingtai, I have been here for 7 months now, and only now the foreign affairs office here wants to talk to the Foreign teachers many foreign teachers have left this university over the pass two years but only now I am learning why.
1. this Universtiy don't like Americans and black people.
2. they don't like anyone who stands up for them self
3. if you bend over and say yes then you will be a great teacher here.
4. you will be locked out of the teachers building if you don't come home before 10:00 pm because they lock the gates and the door then you must phone someone who will let you in.
5. you must tell the university were you go I mean if you go to a city or to Beijing they want to know what hotel you will stay at they say it for are safety as foreign Teachers
6.This universtiy treats their students not to be free, they are locked out of the apartments in the day and lock them in at night if there was a fire they will all die because the fire doors are locked from the out side, then the university tells the students when they can go out in the day time there are rules here.
7. there are cameras in the class rooms we are told its for to training local teachers and to help them
8. there is two big factorys right next to this university so every day theres bad air it must rain all day to clear the air here, one is a paper mill and the other is iron factory.
9. the heating do not get turn on intil the 25th of November because this is the rules of the University in winter I was told it's to save money.
10. they only pay teachers from 4500-5500 amonth if you have no teachers lettler then its only 3500-4000 amonth.
11. oh yes one more thing I have six Z visas in my passport it the way that the Xingtai local government work here.
12. the local police here stop local people and car drivers they must pay a fine from 50-200 yuan for something but the police here just put the money in their pocket I have never seen this before only here in Xingtai. I did ask one of my students but she said it just the way the police work here they can stop anyone but not Foreign teachers.
Only today I have just been told that I must let my students come in my class room late and if they want to play basket ball and not go to my english class or sleep in my class and not learn then I must not ask them to leave the class room or stop them coming to class because each parents pay 10.000 a year in the business deparment were I work some of them can not read and spell and write or listen in english at all but I must teach them english and next year to pass them on english and to help them pass the IELTS or TOEFL to go to Australia in the next two years.
Today I was told by the business deparment that if the students write a report and don't like a foreign Teacher then the university will remove him or her from here, so that means that the students have the power over the teachers,
What do you think is this right?.
Bye. |

Check the pilot light on your oven. Did it go out?
Open a window or something. |

Ok BB,
nolefan and I are referring to your grammar, word formation, discourse and punctuation more than the content of your message. This isn't fair - it sounds like a rough deal you guys are getting, though by no means unusual in China (have a look at the China forum!).
"If your English is this bad then you shouldn't be teaching it" is, I suspect, what many on this forum may argue.
It's not "Do anyone...?" as your post is titled, it's "Does anyone...?", by the way I'm sure I, and others, could go on... |

There's nothing TOO unusual here. You''ll have to do better than this if you want to shock anyone.
Can't see the hating Americans part though. Most I have worked with here are Yanks (sorry.) I have been the lone Canadian at 3 straight jobs here. (Is that a record?)
As for rules? Ignore them. Just be agreeable but do what you must. Curfew of 10:00? Does that mean you have to go out before 10 p.m. or be back before 10 in the morning?
WHERE are you? |

Possibly the worst troll post I've ever seen..... Next time, at least try to make it believable!! Far too many mistakes - 13 mistakes in a line of 36 words? And if you are actually a teacher, all I can say is God help your students... |

I am not on here as a student who must learn grammar from any teacher on here I just used this forum to have my say about China and to make friends and not to make any enemys on here.
Yes I am only an Oral English teacher and needn't teach rubbish grammar to my Chinese students because I hate it my self "thank god"

[quote]Ali G, is you teaching English in China now? Tell those chinamens should show you some respect. Yo.

LOL!
BritishBulldog:
Your story just sounds like the good, old communist times! It must have been like that in Russia, too. I have only been to China once, travelling but have read some books by Chinese authors about life in China. What you wrote just sounds a) my experiences while travelling b) what I read in the novels.
Consider that China is not a democratic, free country it all sounds normal.
I once stayed wih a couple of foreign language teachers in Georgia and they were observed by the Georgian secret service and had lots of odd stories about it to tell. |

I have actually known a few teachers who work in similar conditions, so it is believable.
But this is, once again, a REMINDER to all newbies to ask tough questions BEFORE getting on the plane and coming to China.
Working for 4000 RMB a month and then also being treated like a child is hardly worth your effort now, is it? |

British Bulldog,
I'll try to use simpler words, so you can understand me. I have to say that I agree with the other responses - that you are not for real.
Your English is too reminiscent of many Chinese IELTS students I have met. They believe their grammar is very good, but still make basic mistakes like confusing do/does, he/she, etc. But it is possible to understand these students, but at the same time it's difficult for them to overcome these simple faults, as they were never corrected at an early stage or they never listened to the teacher when being corrected. The latter is more probable.
You are probably a student of the University who had a rough ride or some grievance. Perhaps you even cheated (very common in China), were found out and now seek some form of revenge in the only way you can. By attempting to paint a bad picture of this establishment, you hope to discourage new teachers. This is all conjecture, but you'll forgive me for using my powers of reason & deduction, I would love to stoop to your level of automated subservience and endless memorisation, but my brain cells work in a different way from yours.
Your name 'British Bulldog' is also a dead giveaway. I'm English and so let me explain further - perhaps you will be able to concentrate for a few seconds on my words - if you can drag yourself away from your precious mobile phone:
Unfortunately in the last twenty years it has gained connotations of extreme right-wing political parties (BNP & NF) or overt patriotism. The overwhelming majority of British teachers here, would never use such a name, as would feel uncomfortable or just plain silly with it.
However, that said, I could be wrong. In the highly unlikely event that you are for real, then may I make a few recommendations? I think you will be interested as you did post your notice for General Discussion.
1. Leave the University immediately. It's not the place for a person of your undoubted talents. I'd hate to see somebody with such a fine grasp of my native tongue being unhappy.
2. Burn all your teaching books or give them to somebody who can use them properly.
3. Return to Britain and get a job working in McDonalds or stacking shelves in a supermarket - this is where your true vocation lies.
4. Do not teach ever again, Chinese students' English is bad enough already without individuals like yourself making it worse.
I do so look forward to your next post, as it will be immensely amusing.

Now that was a great post! LMAO...... go ShapeSphere! Looking forward to your reply if BB comes back.
I don't mean to pick on you British Bulldog, but your english is awkward to say the least for a native speaker. Hope everything goes well if you are for real. It doesn't sound like you're enjoying yourself at all. |
