|
|
As of yesterday, the SARS stats for the 1 700 000 students in Beijing, were as follows. The figures were gleaned from a special meeting of the international schools of Beijing held yesterday.
- 22 confirmed cases
- 128 suspected cases, including 53 uni students
- no deaths
My school, Beijing International School is still open, with no cases reported in the community. I think the school is right to remain open in light of these figures. But this afternoon there is a special panic meeting being organised by certain rebel staff members. The executive have refused to attend. So, on with the revolution! |

Those figures are from the commie government.
The same government that shot the protesters of the first and second Tiananmen square rebellion and then burned the bodies to hide the evidence.
The same government that allows provincial governments such power that women are sold into sex slavery and sex slave brides within 100 cliks of Beijing. And allows organs sliced and sold from political prisoners.
...
And allows provincial governments to just shoot whoever they don't like.. political rivals, business rivals, Mom and Pop disharmony, plague carriers.
..
Thew same government that took its lessons form Goebbles and Stalin and improved their propaganda machine for over 50 years.
..
So you mean THOSE government statistics.
I am soooooooo relieved!!! |

I'm listening to the BBC- perhaps the last truly decent news organization on the planet- as I type here.
They are saying that HALF of all new SARS cases have come from Beijing.
Viva la revolucion.

Interesting to see a brief post I made comparing American government rhetoric to Chinese government rhetoric has been removed. So much for the open society. To paraphrase an old song: Welcome to MacWorld, won't you come on in! |

Sorta sorry about this, but I cant let a reference to Cohens poetry and songs go by without introducing the following on the chance that it will be new to someone.
Ill try to control myself in the future.
Regards,
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows
And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows
And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows |

Hamish/Jim Bishop,
so glad to know there are chaps out there with a good music taste! I love those Cohen songs, especially
Bird on the Wire; Story of Isaac; Seems so long ago, Nancy; You know who I am, and a few others, but, unfortunately, not Future!
Thanks for the lyrics! |

Good news anyone?
http://www.latimes.com
Vietnam First to Contain SARS
The announcement by the World Health Organization comes as others in the region bicker about how to stop the virus' spread.
By Tyler Marshall, Richard Paddock and Anthony Kuhn, Special to The Times
HONG KONG -- The World Health Organization announced today that Vietnam has become the first country to contain SARS, even as other East Asian nations quarreled over increasingly draconian measures to halt the spread of the pneumonia-like illness. |

Those facts are absolutely not true. Three univ students in Beijing have died. I personaly know people who left their unis because of that, 2 weeks ago. |

Kathleen,
As stated those stats were for last Thursday. Perhaps you could provide us with your source. As far as I am aware, the youngest SARS victim has been 28 years old, so if uni students in Beijing are dying, it would contradict the profile of SARS in other countries. Forgive me for being skeptical, but if the sources are anecdotal, I will file them next to the stories of hospital workers giving SARS patients deadly injections and then burning the bodies - and the latest Elvis sightings. |

They are anecdotal in that I haven't read them in a newspaper but I know the students who have come home. I belive them. |

Egas,
I believe the 28 year old you refer to is the youngest victim in Hong Kong http://tinyurl.com/ah28 . I have yet to see any age breakdown of the Sars numbers in Beijing or the rest of China.
Let us know if you have that information. We would be interested. |
