Can anyone comment from experience on this employer? - general good, bad, indifferent info - I've seen the threads on Brunei - they seem fairly positive. Thanks. |

Never worked for Cfbt, but am a big Malaysia fan so was more than interested to see their recruiting ads.
Youd really have to love Malaysia to take one of these posts. Itll more than likely be in a remote backwater which even Id be struggling in. The pay for teachers is quite good, though RM4500 including accommodation.
Whats stopped me applying is the start date of early January 2005. The deadline for applications is the end of this week. By the time theyve interviewed and selected, the successful lot will have about 2 or 3 weeks to drop everything and head to Malaysia. Id go tomorrow but like 99% of the population Ive got a job and would have to give some notice. Cfbt seems a respectable operation, but Im wondering why theyve left their recruitment so late.
Saying that, I'd love to go. |

They've been recruiting for months and months. I think they've got a lot of positions to fill.
I've heard good things about them from expats living in Malaysia. |

Malaysia seems like a nice place, with regards to the climate and enviornment, but it seems pretty repressive towards women.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? |

Thanks for the comments. No real bad news - but no one really knows? I can't confirm or deny the female repression thing as I've only visited the country for a short time - but long enough to consider dropping it all to go for a longer stint! That said, it was a bit short notice - not really practical - but for what it's worth I did contact them and they didn't give me any bad vibes. (I also enquired about a company called IH - wasn't impressed by what they had to say.) Anyway, the quest goes on.......... |

Going a bit OT, but can anyone comment on the salary scale for university faculty? Are lecturers paid every month they teach or year round? Is there vacation in summer and winter? I know the university language centers work you like a dog, but I'm asking about teaching in the regular university English classes. Thanks! |

Universiti Malaya sometimes advertises for English teachers. If memory serves, they pay about 3500-4000 a month, no idea about holidays. I'd imagine private unis are better to work for, e.g. UM, IIM, UPM. |
