So, I'm watching the election results LIVE here in China. It's up and down, back and forth. I'm getting a sinking feeling that Bush is going to win. He's up (at the moment) by about 1.5 million in the popular vote and a few electoral votes ahead as well. There are several states to go, but I don't know. It upsets my stomach. I'm still rooting for Kerry though. This is more exciting than the Super Bowl!

Pretty nuts isn't it? What site do you think has the best coverage? I've seen CNN and ABC, CNN seems a bit better.

I'm in China, so my choices are limited. I'm watching NBC and Tom Brokaw (and company). I definitely will NOT watch FOX. Either they are cackling over Bush's victories or will be tossing sour grapes should Kerry win. "Fair and Balanced" my eye.

Simply voting today was exciting., and certainly not the same old, same old.

Normally, voting means showing up to the polling place and casting my ballot. I may pass another person on the way in or out, and they are most often blue-haired, elderly women - much older than myself.

Today was quite different. I waited in line for an hour with a quite diverse group. I saw the usual elderly of course, however this time I also saw just about every other type of person I could think of --- it was the first multi-cultural voting experience I've ever had. It was way cool.

The most vocal, by the way, were the Kerry supporters, and there were two Republican "monitors" watching the festivities.

Here's an interesting bit:

Almost half of Florida's polling stations are still open and in a legal dispute Republicans are trying to delay counting of half a million absentee ballots until Thursday something that would mean certainly no result on Tuesday night.

Let the games begin, eh?

It's now noon in China. Florida is leaning toward Bush, but the news commentators are not going to say "for sure" (esp. after 2000). I hear that Kerry MUST win Ohio (plus all the states they "assume" he is going to take) in order to become president. So far, Bush has the lead in that state.

I know you all don't need this update, but I have nobody to talk to about this!

i think bush is going to win, florida and ohio aren't looking so positive. republicans also gained in congressional elections. the US is taking another shift to the right, i'd wager.

I don't know why you didn't believe me when I told you Bush was going to win. I knew right after the debates, for certain, Bush would win and I would have bet the farm.

looking like this post should be titled 'a truly dire, sad, and pathetic day for us all'. but there's still hope kerry might pull it off. we can just hope his lawyers are good enough.

Kerry can still pull it out. He needs Nevada, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan which he is ahead in, barely. Also he is still in the game in Ohio. Without Ohio I think Bush is sunk. Keep the faith people!

And now the networks say Bush wins Ohio with about 100,000 votes ahead. But Kerry isn't conceding yet. His party claims that there are still about 250,000 votes yet uncounted and these votes are from a very strong Democratic area.

Sure, I want Kerry to win (actually, I want Bush NOT to win!), but I have my doubts.

I'm doing Fahrenheit 9/11 today and tomorrow with an advanced conversation class (lots of great discussion material from the Michael Moore website). For this class alone, I hope Bush wins, as the inevitable anti-Bush rhetoric will be far more viscious (and, thus, the class more interesting) if he gets re-elected for another term.

But, for the sake of the rest of the world, I really hope that other guys wins.

This has really been quite a nail biter. Ohio has been labeled by CNN as too close to call. Ohio law stipulates that provisional and absentee ballots can't be counted until 11 days after the election. I don't know why. If Bush wins Ohio and Kerry wins the other remaining states which is a serious posibility they will tie at 269 electoral votes each. It will then go to the house which will elect Bush as it is GOP dominated. It's all very exciting. Kerry in no way should concede early. That's what killed Gore last time.

I agree. If Gore wouldn't have wimped out, maybe, just maybe, the last four years would have been different.
